Local elections in Brandenburg 2014

On 25 May 2014, found local elections in Brandenburg in 2014 instead. The representatives for 14 district assemblies , four city councils of the independent cities and the community councils or city councils of the cities and municipalities belonging to the district were elected. Honorary and full-time mayors were also directly elected. For districts within municipalities, elections were carried out for mayors and local councils . The European Parliament election was held on the same day . At the same time, local elections were held in Baden-Württemberg , Hamburg , North Rhine-Westphalia , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Rhineland-Palatinate , Saarland , Saxony , Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia .

The turnout was 46.3 percent (981,246 of 2,120,411 eligible voters; −3.1 percentage points compared to 2008). There were 2.8 percent invalid votes.

Electoral system

In the local elections in Brandenburg, all persons were eligible to vote who were German citizens or citizens of another EU member state (Section 8 BbgKWahlG). The minimum age for active voting is 16 years (Section 8 BbgKWahlG) and 18 years for passive voting (Section 11 BbgKWahlG). In addition, the main place of residence must have been in the electoral area for at least three months before the election date (Section 11 BbgKWahlG). All eligible voters had to give three votes, which they could mix and match (§ 5 BbgKWahlG).

Results from 2008

In the local elections in Brandenburg in 2008 , the SPD was the strongest force with 25.8% of the vote, closely followed by Die Linke with 24.7%. They were followed by the CDU with 19.8%, the FDP with 7.3% and Alliance 90 / The Greens with 4.6%. Other parties and electoral associations each remained below 2%.
