Iko Uwais (born Uwais Qorny, born February 12, 1983 in Jakarta ) is an Indonesian actor , stuntman and martial arts actor. He became known with his leading roles in the action films Merantau (2009) and The Raid (2011).

Life

Iko Uwais was born on February 12, 1983 in Jakarta, Indonesia as Uwais Qorny (nickname: Iko) and belongs to the Betawi ethnic group . At the age of 10 he began to learn the Indonesian martial art Pencak Silat .

Career

Iko was discovered by Welsh director Gareth Evans in 2007 and received his first leading role in his film Merantau . Since then, the two have been working together for many years, as Evans staged him in The Raid and The Raid 2 . In 2013, Uwais appeared in Keanu Reeves directorial debut Man of Tai Chi . In 2015 he played the role of Razoo Quin-Fee in Star Wars: The Force Awakens . Timo Tjahjanto directed it in the Netflix film The Night Comes for Us . Mile 22 led him to the side of Mark Wahlberg . In 2019 he took on the leading role of Kai Jin in the Netflix in-house production Wu Assassins .
