Wu Assassins is an American action - crime series with mystery elements of John Wirtz and Tony Krantz , the on August 8, 2019 when streaming provider Netflix has been released. The main roles were played by Iko Uwais , Katheryn Winnick and Byron Mann . The series is about the chef Kai Jin, who is drawn into the war of the triad gangs in San Francisco .

action

The Chinese-Indonesian chef Kai Jin lives and works in the Chinatown of San Francisco . He has the dream of opening a food truck there. One day he is attacked by thugs from the Triad and escapes, but finds an unconscious young woman on the street. The woman wakes up and reveals that she is Ying Ying, the first Wu assassin. She thinks Kai is of pure heart and gives him a monk splinter that gives him mystical power. Thus Kai becomes the new and eponymous "Wu Assassin", the Wu assassin who has to kill the five Wu warlords in order to restore the balance of the Dao . The Wu warlords are people endowed with mystical powers, each of which has absorbed an elemental power. There are earth wu, wood wu, water wu, metal wu, and fire wu.

Kai's foster father, the triad boss Uncle Six, controls a large part of the criminal underworld of San Francisco and turns out to be a fire wu in the course of the series. Kai initially works in the “Master Wahs” restaurant owned by Jenny Wah, who borrowed money from Uncle Six to restore her parents' restaurant. Her brother, Tommy Wah, is a heroin addict and himself a member of the triad. Both are good friends of Kai and support him in his fight against the overpowering opponents.

They get further support from Christine "CG" Gavin, a policewoman who is assigned by her boss Frank Fletcher to be smuggled into the triad as an undercover agent. She comes into contact with triad member Lu Xin Lee, who is Kai Jin's best friend, and works in his car repair shop. In this way, she should try to get information about the war between the Russian mafia (led by the Scot McCullough) and the triad.

Kai is meanwhile having a hard time accepting the role of the Wu assassin because he does not see himself as a murderer. Every now and then Kai meets with Ying Ying in a place outside of time and space, who tells him that he is already the thousandth Wu assassin - and thus also the last. All previous ones have failed. She herself was the first Wu assassin who managed to defeat all five Wu warriors - but she was then also killed. Ying Ying shows Kai the statues of all former Wu assassins who now work in him and give him their power.

Uncle Six learns that McCullough is the Wood Wu. McCullough explains that he himself was the Wu assassin about 500 years ago. However, after the water wu killed his wife and child, he tried to revive them by killing himself and then immediately took over the power of the wood wu, which has healing powers and is immortal itself. However, he did not succeed in bringing his family back to life - for this it is necessary to unite all five Wu pieces and open a portal. McCullough plans to get all five Wu parts into his possession. This would enable him to revive his family - but the world would end as a result.

Fire-Wu Uncle Six and Kai see through the plan and try to gradually kill Wu warriors to stop McCollough. With a special poison mixture, the Gu, Kai succeeds in removing the element of fire wu from Uncle Six. Kai hands over the element of fire wu to CG so that it is safe and he can take care of the other wu warriors in peace. However, this transfer is observed by Zan, a triad who also works for McCullough. Thus McCullough learns that Uncle Six is no longer the Fire Wu and that Kai is the Wu assassin.

Kai succeeds in tracking down the earth-wu and killing him, with the latter urging him to keep the earth shard away from McCullough in any case. Meanwhile, the Metal Wu meets up with McCullough to get the Fire Wu element from CG.

CG allows herself to be deliberately arrested by the police by pretending to steal a car in front of two police officers. Your goal is to see Frank Fletcher, your boss, and tell him everything. The metal Wu, who is the only one who can slip into other bodies at will, takes control of a policewoman named Riley in order to also gain access to the precinct. There she then slips into the body of Frank Fletcher - and from there into the body of CG. Tommy and Jenny are also at the police station as Tommy was arrested by the police. Jenny manages to grasp the element of fire wu so that she becomes the new fire wu. McCullough, who has since arrived, injures Tommy badly and offers a deal: Jenny must sacrifice herself to release the element of fire-wu, otherwise Tommy will die.

Now Miss Jones, the water wu, comes into play. For McCullough, she is looking for an artifact that is a guide to the afterlife. She finds it in an old, wealthy man whom she kills after losing a game of poker.

Meanwhile, Zan meets with Uncle Six and tells him about the deal: McCullough has captured CG, Tommy and Jenny. To free them, Kai McCullough must give the Earth Wu Shard. McCullough calls Kai, but Kai initially rejects the deal. Uncle Six tries to recruit an army of triads, but is killed by Zan, who has since set herself up as triad chief.

Kai goes to McCullough's meeting with Lu Xin after all. McCullough heals Tommy, Kai tries to thwart McCullough's plan by giving Tommy the earth-wu. McCullough reveals, however, that the gate to the Daoo will be opened precisely when all five Wu elements have found human hosts and are connected to the artifact. This is the situation now. The group is thus transported to the Dao, where Kai manages to collect the five Wu pieces and open a portal to the human world. Lu Xin leads the others through the portal back into the human world, while Kai follows McCullough through a portal that transports him to his family. McCullough reunites with his family, but Kai tracks down McCullough and eventually kills him, but spares his family.

Six weeks later, Lu tells Xin Kai that Zan is in Macau to recruit more members, and Lu goes to see CG. After a deep kiss, CG drives off with Lu's car.

In the last scene of the season, Kai meets Ying Ying again in Jenny's restaurant, who tells him that the world still needs a Wu assassin. Then the building begins to shake and collapse. This ends the season - and a transition to a possible sequel has been created.
