Lawrence Kao

Lawrence Kao (born May 14, 1985 in Hacienda Heights , California ) is an American actor and dancer . He gained fame mainly through the role of Tommy Wah from the series Wu Assassins .

life and career

Lawrence Kao was born in Hacienda Heights, California. His parents worked as a postman and an accountant. For a long time he had the desire to take up a medical profession. He discovered his interest in art through his mother, who wanted him to learn to play the guitar. In addition to the guitar, he also played the saxophone and piano. He first attended Glen A. Wilson High School, where he has already appeared in school performances, and then the University of California, Irvine , from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater. Even before graduating, he was a regular on the California theater stages. Among other things, he played Lysander from William Shakespeare's Midsummer Night 's Dream . At the premiere there was an incident in which Kao was arrested for attempted murder. He spent a week in jail until it was discovered that an eyewitness had falsely charged him. Due to the incident, he could not appear until the final performance of the piece. At the university he also discovered his passion for dancing. He was a participant in the first season of the television show America's Best Dance Crew on MTV , where he appeared as part of the Kaba Modern team . The group ended up in third place.

Kao took on his first role in front of the camera in the short film The Noble in 2009 . Since then he has appeared in the series Franklin & Bash , The Walking Dead , LaLaLand , Hawaii Five-0 , Navy CIS: LA , Jennifer Falls , Scorpion , Murder in the First , 2 Broke Girls , Navy CIS: New Orleans , Workaholics , Sleepy Hollow , Girlboss and The Purge in guest roles. In 2015 he played a small role in the science fiction film The Determination - Insurgent . A year later he was Dr. Lee played a supporting role in Max Steel . From 2015 to 2016 he appeared repeatedly as Van in The Originals . In 2019 he starred as Tommy Wah in one of the leading roles in the Netflix series Wu Assassins .

Today he is part of the Kinjaz dance troupe , which has studios in Los Angeles and China. Besides acting and dancing, Kao is also a passionate photographer. He lives in Los Angeles with his girlfriend.
