Lewis Tan

Lewis Singwah Tan (born February 4, 1987 in Manchester ) is a British actor , martial artist and model . He gained fame primarily through his roles in the film Deadpool 2 and the series Wu Assassins .

Early years

Lewis Tan was born in Manchester to the Chinese-born martial artist and stunt coordinator Philip Tan and his British wife, a former model. He spent his childhood in different places around the world, including France and Thailand. However, he spent most of it in Los Angeles , where his father was hired as the stunt coordinator for Tim Burton's 1989 film Batman , which he still considers his home to this day. He grew up with three younger brothers. Two of his brothers, Sam and Evan, are now also working as actors and photographers.

Tan was trained early on by his father in martial arts such as kickboxing and Muay Thai and also began acting early on. His first role was at the age of three when he appeared in the 1990 film China Cry: A True Story , which his father also worked on.

Career

After graduating from school, after having already gained some experience in the theater, he first attended college, but left it quickly and was booked as a stuntman in the Bahamas for the shooting of Pirates of the Caribbean . After a few small roles in the 1990s and early 2000s, he took on guest roles in CSI: NY , CSI: Miami , Navy CIS: LA and The Protector from 2006 . He also took on small roles in the films Red Velvet , Olympus Has Fallen and Hangover 3 . Other guest roles have since followed in Hawaii Five-0 , Rush Hour and Marvel's Iron Fist . In 2018 he took on a small role in the movie Criminal Squad and was also seen in Deadpool 2 as Shatterstar , which made him better known. From 2018 to 2019 he took on the role of Gaius Chau in the Into the Badlands series . In 2010 he wrote and directed the short film I Spy .

In 2019 Tan was cast as Lu Xin Lee in the series Wu Assassins of the streaming provider Netflix in a leading role. Tan plans to work with producer Tucker Tooley to direct his father's life story. He is also committed to the dismantling of stereotypical Asian roles in film and television. In addition to his acting activities, in which he performed a large part of his stunts himself, he also took on stunts for other projects, including The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift , Pirates of the Caribbean - At the End of the World , Olympus Has Fallen - The World in Hazard and Hangover 3 .
