action

The underground boss Tama controls a skyscraper in Jakarta's slums . He and his two bodyguards Mad Dog and Andi call on all residents to defend their house when a twenty-man police unit is supposed to raid the building . However, many of the police officers are inexperienced and make mistakes, so most of them are quickly eliminated by Tama's henchmen. The remaining law enforcement officers die in large numbers from a shooting in the stairwell over several floors. Soon only the five policemen Lieutenant Wahyu, Sergeant Jaka, Dagu, Rama and the injured Bowo are left, who split up into two groups.

Rama and Bowo initially find accommodation with a man and his sick wife, who they hide in a corridor behind the wall. When Tama's henchmen felt the room, they perforated the wall with a machete, but only brushed Rama's cheek with the blade. Rama leaves Bowo with the man and on his way through the house meets Andi, who turns out to be Rama's brother and therefore hides him in an apartment. The other group is picked up by Mad Dog and in a fight he breaks Jaka's neck. When Andi and Mad Dog give Tama an account, Andi has nothing to show and Tama has also seen through his surveillance cameras how he has hidden Rama.

As Rama moves on, he meets Wahyu and Dagu, but soon separates from them when he sees through a window in a door how his brother Andi is being tortured by Mad Dog while hanging on a chain. After Rama enters the room, Mad Dog lets Andi down and fights the two brothers. Mad Dog is stabbed to death with a broken fluorescent tube. Meanwhile, Wahyu and Dagu arrive in Tama's room. Wahyu has Tama tied up by Dagu, but then shoots the latter in order to reap the laurels himself and to avoid having to give an account of the unauthorized police operation. When Wahyu takes Tama away, Tama explains that the corrupt government only sent Wahyu to run him to his death with an inexperienced unit. Wahyu then shoots Tama and wants to commit suicide. However, there is no bullet left in the revolver drum. Andi, Wahyu and Rama get Bowo and leave the house. At the gate, Andi says that he wants to stay in the house and that he cannot imagine a future in law and order.

Reviews

For the most part, the film received a positive response: The Rotten Tomatoes site scored a total of 85% positive out of 143 reviews with an average rating of 7.5 out of 10 points. In summary, it says: "No frills and exciting - 'The Raid' is an imaginative action film, masterfully timed and edited." On Metacritic , The Raid received a Metascore of 73 out of 100.

“Straightforward action film that unfolds its simple plot quickly and without frills and creates an exciting threat scenario. Even if the perfectly choreographed imagery is a lot more complex than in comparable genre films, the extreme scenes of violence are disturbing. "

"Gareth Evans The Raid is a grandiose staged action cracker, but also a film of remarkable coldness, which in the final act causes itself to stumble a little with an excess of abstruse twists."

“There may be financial reasons for the fact that there are no material battles and pyro excesses in The Raid . Evans knows how to use this supposed deficit skillfully for the concept of his film. All action, whether with or without weapons, arises from the ingeniously choreographed movement of the human body. "
