Joe Taslim

Johannes "Joe" Taslim (born June 23, 1981 in Palembang , Indonesia ) is an Indonesian film actor and former martial artist .

Life

Joe Taslim was born in Palembang, Indonesia to Maria Goretty and Mardjuki Taslim. Taslim married his wife Julia in 2004. The two have three children.

Career as an athlete

At a young age, Taslim was trained in various martial arts , such as Wushu , Judo , Taekwondo and Pencak Silat . Taslim later began a professional judo career and won several gold medals, including one at the 1999 Southeast Asian Judo Championship. At the Asean Games 2007, Taslim won a silver medal. Taslim was a member of the Indonesian national judo team from 1997 to 2009. After an injury, Taslim was forced to retire from professional sports.

Film career

At the beginning of his acting career, Taslim appeared in TV spots and several Indonesian feature films. In 2010, Taslim received the role of Jaka, a member of a special police unit, from Gareth Evans in the award-winning Indonesian independent action film The Raid (original title: Serbuan maut ), in which he was seen in a series of impressive fight scenes. This was followed by a role in the horror film Dead Mine , which was released in theaters in several Asian countries in 2012. In July 2012, Variety reported that Taslim would be part of the cast of the film Fast & Furious 6 , which premiered in 2013. Taslim plays the cold-blooded killer Jah, who fights Dominic Toretto ( Vin Diesel ) and Brian O'Conner ( Paul Walker ) . In July 2015, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Taslim received a minor role in the movie Star Trek Beyond .
