The Raid

The Raid 2 (original title: The Raid 2: Berandal ) is an Indonesian martial arts - action film from the year 2014 by the Welsh writer-director Gareth Evans . The film is a sequel to The Raid from 2011.

action

The young police officer Rama is recruited as an undercover cop after the events of The Raid . At first he is undecided, but after learning that his brother Andi has been killed by the gang boss Bejo and that his family is now in danger, he declares himself ready for the dangerous mission. Rama is said to befriend the impetuous Uco in prison under the pseudonym “Yuda”, whose father Bangun controls the entire city of Jakarta in cooperation with the Japanese mafia. After an attempted assassination attempt on Uco, in which Rama saves Uco's life, Rama is released from prison after two years thanks to the influence of Uco's father. After Rama was released, he started working for Bangun's organization and quickly made a name for himself. Uco feels neglected by his father and forges with Bejo the plan to lead the Banguns organization to war against the Japanese. To fake a reason for war, Bejo's men kill a close friend of Bangun.

However, he refuses to open the clan war against the Japanese. Therefore, Uco opens hostilities on its own initiative. The Japanese strike back, which among other things leads to Rama being attacked by corrupt police officers on the Japanese payroll. At a peace summit, however, Bangun assumes sole guilt and declares that he will do everything possible to prevent this from happening in the future. In his office he beats his son for his arbitrary behavior. But then Bejo joins them, whereupon Uco kills his father with a shot in the head and wounded his deputy Eka.

Rama, who was informed by Eka by phone about the punishment of Uco, bursts into the room after Bangun has already been shot. He recognizes Uco's betrayal of his father and is able to help Eka escape, but is captured himself in the process. On the drive to "dispose of" him, however, he is again freed by Eka, who is fatally injured. Dying, Eka also reveals himself to be an undercover policeman.

Rama then storms Bejo's restaurant and causes a real massacre. When Rama storms the room, Uco turns on Bejo and shoots him. Next to the dying he throws a bug that Rama had hidden in his wallet, which he had found there shortly before. Rama kills him too. When he is about to leave the restaurant, seriously injured, he meets the Japanese who were about to storm the house. What follows is a dialogue between Keiichi, the leader of the Japanese, and Rama, which is inaudible to the audience, and ends with Rama's words "No, I'm out".

- Moviebreak.de

"Once the bloodbath sets in, Evans' action skills prove to be as robust and hyperkinetic as ever, and he delivers deep, bone-breaking pleasure for hardcore action buffs."

"Spectacular fights like in part one, plus an epic saga about trust and betrayal - an absolute masterpiece of the martial arts genre."

"Extra-long, furiously choreographed martial arts film as the middle part of a trilogy that serves fans of hard genre action without reaching the staging density of the first part (" The Raid ", 2011)."

continuation

In an interview, director Gareth Evans stated that he was planning a third installment that would bring the story of The Raid to an end. However, the end of the trilogy should come to cinemas in 2018 at the earliest. In the fall of 2018, Evans canceled The Raid 3, however.
