Jim Carroll
James Dennis "Jim" Carroll (* 1. August 1949 in New York City ; † 11. September 2009 ibid ) was an American writer , musician and punk .
Life
The young Carroll came into contact with the New York art scene at an early age and also appeared in two Andy Warhol films . In 1970 Carroll belonged to the elite of the New York art scene along with Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe . His music style inspired artists such as Pearl Jam , Rancid , Lou Reed and John Cale .
Carroll described the experiences and experiences of his early teenage years in the book The Basketball Diaries , published in 1978 . The book is based on the diaries Carroll kept between the ages of 12 and 16, and also addresses his heroin addiction, which began when Carroll was 13. In 1995 the book was filmed under the same title with Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg in the lead roles (English title: Jim Carroll - In the streets of New York ).
Caroll died on September 11, 2009 in his Manhattan apartment after a heart attack.
