Suddenly Family (Original title: Instant Family ) is an American comedy film from the year 2018 by Sean Anders with Mark Wahlberg , Rose Byrne , Isabela Moner , Gustavo Quiroz and Julianna Gamiz . In the USA the film was released on November 16, 2018, in Austria on January 17, 2019. The German theatrical release took place on January 31, 2019.

Ellie and Pete are a happily married couple. Together they run a company that buys, renovates and then resells houses in need of renovation. Starting a family was hardly an issue until one evening, until Ellie looked at the website of an adoption agency looking for foster parents . The two get in touch with the agency and complete a corresponding preparatory course.
As a result, they get to know a sibling trio consisting of the 15-year-old rebellious Lizzy and her younger siblings Juan and Lita. Ellie and Pete take the three in with them. Suddenly, the two new parents are faced with challenges that completely mess up their everyday lives, especially since the three initially show no interest in letting their foster parents tell them something.
Pete and Ellie find that parenting is a lot more complicated than they imagined. Together, however, the five manage to master the pitfalls of everyday life and slowly grow together into a real family.

Production and Background
The shooting took place in Atlanta . The film was produced by Paramount Pictures . Production costs were around $ 48 million.
The script is based on real experiences of director and screenwriter Sean Anders , who himself and his wife adopted three children in 2012.
Isabela Moner and Mark Wahlberg previously appeared together in Transformers: The Last Knight (2017).

Horst-Günther Fiedler wrote in TV-Media that after his two Daddy's Home films one would have expected the director to be “the next slapstick”. The surprise, however, is big and pleasant, because in this drama there is “a crushed tear next to every laugh”. The humor would be determined by " Gilmore Girls -like high-speed dialogues". In addition, there are great characters and a precise cast down to the smallest supporting roles.
Christian Klosz from filmpluskritik.com also praised the film and attested it great credibility and authenticity. He awarded 7 out of 10 possible points and concluded: “ Suddenly family is an extremely likeable film. Entertaining, but never banal or superficial, he talks about how people grow with challenges, how (...) children build trust and experience love for the first time in life (...) and what it means to be "family" . Sidney Schering found onquotemeter.de that the film Anders' Herzblut should be noted in full: "This heartfelt, honest, loving comedy is a lot of fun and yet does justice to the seriousness of its subject matter". The script may not be structured one hundred percent fluently, but it would be convincing how the authors tease the story. Equipped with rapid-fire dialogues and witty situation comedy, this is a "wonderful, crisply told family film that is not afraid of big emotions without becoming too cheesy, that does not shrink from tackling the challenges of being an (adoptive) parent nevertheless causes great laughs in high frequency.
