Michael O'Keefe

Michael O'Keefe (* 24. April 1955 in Mount Vernon , New York as Raymond Peter O'Keefe, Jr. ) is an American actor .

Life and accomplishments

O'Keefe is the oldest of seven children in a strictly Catholic Irish-American family . His father was a law professor at Fordham University . Michael O'Keefe studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and at New York University . He made his debut in a television commercial for Colgate in 1970 .

O'Keefe played a major role in the drama The Great Santini (1979) alongside Robert Duvall . For this achievement he was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award in 1981. In 1980, he appeared alongside Chevy Chase in the comedy Madness Without Handicap . For his appearance in 1985 on the television series The Hitchhiker , he was nominated for the CableACE Award in 1987 . In the film drama Spurge (1987) O'Keefe played a larger role alongside Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep . In 1991 he took on the lead role in the drama Out of the Rain .

After his first marriage to Alma, who had two children, O'Keefe married the composer and actress Bonnie Raitt in 1991 . The marriage ended in divorce in 2000.
