Reviews

Robert Koehler wrote on January 20, 2008 in the online edition of Variety magazine that the “grandiose and moving” portrayal of Melissa Leo dominated the film, which neither sets trends nor is groundbreaking. Leo mobilizes their reserves in order to master a “large, complex role” with “hard-heartedness” and “honesty”. She doesn't try to please the audience, from whom she demands attention and then respect.

Prisma praises the film as "[...] a US cinema that doesn't shine with special and pop-ball effects and star cast, but instead tells empathetically about the hard life of people on the poverty line".
