My Cassette Player is the debut album by German singer Lena Meyer-Landrut . It was released on May 7, 2010 under her stage name Lena. With the exception of Satellite and Bee , the producer is Stefan Raab . The title of the album refers to radio play cassettes of her childhood like Bibi Blocksberg .

Songs

The album includes both Meyer-Landrut's number 1 hit Satellite and the singles Love Me and Bee , all of which were sung in the finale of the casting show Our Star for Oslo , the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Oslo Has. The three titles were published in advance on March 13, 2010 as a download . Meyer-Landrut also performed the cover versions My Same (by Adele ) and Mr. Curiosity (by Jason Mraz ) on the casting show . The album also includes Not Following written by Ellie Goulding . Five other titles were written by Stefan Raab in collaboration with Meyer-Landrut, two by him alone and another with Pär Lammers and Daniel Schaub . The download portals iTunes Store and Amazon.de also offer the bonus songs New Shoes (by Paolo Nutini , also a song from the talent show) and We Can't Go On .

The cover photo was taken as part of a photo shoot and shows the artist sitting on a stool in the midst of numerous cassettes scattered on the floor . Next to the stool is a silver-colored SKR 700 cassette recorder from GDR production. The photos of the cover were taken by Sophie Krische. Ronald Reinsberg took on the design of the artwork .

criticism

The reviews are different. While the critics of the Stuttgarter Nachrichten criticized the excessive influence of Stefan Raab , the Neue Presse described My Cassette Player as "a charming debut". For Focus , the album is “a colorful band salad of musical trivialities”. In the FAZ , Eleonore Büning pointed out that " My Cassette Player was produced for a broad target audience that should not be overwhelmed". Matthias Reichel from the music portal CDStarts certified the album as having " more charm and life than every single release by a DSDS winner".

Laut.de , on the other hand, concluded that “ My Cassette Player is definitely more pleasant than anything from Silbermond and Ich + Ich ”. "Above all, it is now clear that Raab's own composition Love Me is the better song compared to Satellite and that the catchy-playful Bee would have been the better entry for the Eurovision Song Contest". The album is “not really crazy”, but entertaining “and, above all, a genuine Raab production: Happy hum-pop with glockenspiel ( Love Me , You Can't Stop Me ), a shovel of Mutzke mid-tempo soul ( Touch a New Day ), flawless 60s beats with handclaps ( Bee ) and of course two well-known cover versions ( Jason Mraz ' Mr. Curiosity , Adeles My Same ) ”.

Charts

The album My Cassette Player and the single Satellite reached their highest positions both when they were first released and immediately after the Eurovision Song Contest victory in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. After the victory, the song was also successful in most charts across Europe, the album reached number 7 in Norway. In February 2011, the album received five golds for over 500,000 copies sold .
