Eleonore Büning

Elisabeth Eleonore Büning (née Bauer ; born January 2, 1952 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German music journalist .

Life

Eleonore Bauer was born as the daughter of Otto Bauer and Gertrud Bauer-Kadolsky in Frankfurt am Main and grew up in Bonn . She attended the Elly-Heuss-Knapp-Gymnasium, where she graduated from high school on June 15, 1970. She began studying music, theater and literature at the Free University of Berlin . From 1973 to 1976 she was employed as a research assistant at the Musicological Institute of the Free University of Berlin. Afterwards she completed several internships for music therapy at the Medical University of Hanover and gave music lessons.

In 1989 she presented her dissertation under the title AB Marx and Beethoven in the Berliner Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung (1824-1830) . In it she examined the origin of the musical myth Beethoven . The book was published in bookshops under the title How Beethoven came on the pedestal . After her marriage, she settled in Berlin. Eleonore Büning has two children.

Since 1978 Eleonore Büning has published essays for music magazines, since 1983 she has been writing about music for the Berliner tageszeitung , and later also for Weltwoche in Zurich, Rheinische Merkur and radio. In 1994 she became music editor in the features section of the time . In 1997 she moved to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung ; From 2008 until her retirement she was an editor in the features section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung. She also moderates music programs at WDR 3 .

Eleonore Büning has been chairwoman of the German Record Critics' Award since November 2011 .
