Mr. Arrow Key was written by Lena Meyer-Landrut, Sonny Boy Gustafsson and Linda Carlsson, better known as Miss Li . Gustafsson is also the producer of the song. It is 3 minutes and 33 seconds long and first appeared on Lena's third album Stardust on October 12, 2012, in second place on the track list. In terms of genre, the song can be described as a pop song with folk and swing influences.

content

Lyrically the song is about inner turmoil in life, and the desire to be given a clear direction by something or someone. In the verses the lyric I ask the Mr. Arrow Key (arrow key, Eng. For keys , the song metaphorically for one direction), if he could help him solve his problems and to stand him aside in difficult situations. In the chorus it complains about past exertions:

English German

Been climbing up the walls
but I am falling down
I've been running through the streets
but I still haven't found
I'm looking for, I'm searching for it desperately
But I can't find the arrow key.

Climbed the walls
but I'm falling down
I ran the streets
but I still haven't found her
I'm looking for it I'm desperately looking for it
but I can't find the arrow key.

In an interview with her record company Universal, Lena explained about the genesis of the song: “In the past few years I would sometimes have wished for someone who could make difficult decisions for me. Someone with an ultimate plan for my life. A kind of very personal navigation system. And that's exactly what Mr. Arrow Key is all about . [...] In addition, I always wanted a song with one of those retro trumpets that we know from Beirut . And now I finally have an [s]. "

Criticism

The reviews of Mr. Arrow Key have been mixed. Birgit Fuß ( Rolling Stone ) described the song as an "irresistible catchy tune", with Lena and Amy Macdonald racing through the lines. Jörg Heinrich (merkur-online.de) called it a “lightning-fast folk-country cracker” that Amy Macdonald would be jealous of.

Kai Butterweck (laut.de) had a split opinion: "[Lena] gathers [...] a rumbling swing horde around her. As childlike as ever, she tries to squeeze a large part of her English vocabulary in three and a half minutes. By the end of the chorus at the latest, the Gute can no longer quite follow the given tempo, and so the trained overseas accent sounds a bit artificial in many places. "

Kevin Holtmann (plattentests.de) was not very enthusiastic: " Mr. Arrow Key is really meaningless sixties nonsense with polkadots sauce."

Live performances

Lena sang Mr. Arrow Key along with other songs from the Stardust album on the late night show Tv Total during commercial breaks. She also appeared on Sat.1 breakfast television and at the Reeperbahn Festival on September 20th.
