If I Wasn't Your Daughter is a song by the German singer Lena Meyer-Landrut . It was written by her in collaboration with Vincent Stein , Nico Wellenbrink , Jamie Hartman and Konstantin Scherer . The ballad was released on June 6, 2017 as a download single at the same time as the television premiere in the fourth season of Sing my song - Das Tauschkonzert . It was originally planned to be released in 2017 on an album called Gemini . Since Meyer-Landrut stopped working on this album in autumn 2017, the song came as a bonus track on the re-titled album Only Love, L , which was released on April 5, 2019.

The song is about Meyer-Landrut's relationship with her father Ladislas von Karatsony, the son of Andreas Meyer-Landrut , who left the family when Lena was two years old. Shortly before the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 , Lena's father gave the German tabloid Bild an interview in which he explained that although he would not yet get in touch with her, there was always “a seat free at his table”.

Music video

An accompanying music video for If I Wasn't Your Daughter was filmed and edited by Vi-Dan Tran . It was his fifth collaboration with Meyer-Landrut after his work on Catapult , Home , Wild & Free and Beat to My Melody . The video was based on an idea by Meyer-Landrut and her stylist Philipp Koch-Verheyen and was shot at night in Berlin-Mitte , including in places like Potsdamer Platz .

Charts and chart placements

If I Wasn't Your Daughter entered the German single charts at number 42 in the first week. In the second week the song rose to number 35, then the single fell to number 73. After a fourth week at number 93, the song left the German Top 100. In Austria, the song reached number 54 in the charts and stayed there for two weeks. It reached number 31 in Switzerland and stayed there for three weeks.
