Franzpeter Messmer (born February 16, 1954 in Geislingen an der Steige ) is a German author , journalist , festival director and musicologist .

Life

Youth and education

Franzpeter Messmer was born in Geislingen. His parents are the engineer Ernst Messmer and the violinist Anne Messmer. He grew up in Riedlingen , where he graduated from high school in 1974 with the Abitur. During his school days he received violin lessons from his mother and devoted himself to composing and writing fiction texts . After military service in the Ulm Music Corps, he studied musicology , art history and German at the University of Munich . He also took private violin lessons from the concertmaster of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Erich Keller . Research stays took him to the State Library in Stuttgart and the British Library in London. From 1981 to 1990 Messmer worked as a music journalist . Music political engagement

Franzpeter Messmer was first chairman of the Bavarian Tonkünstlerverband from 1989 to 1992 and from 2009 to 2017. From 2011 to 2018 he was on the Presidium of the Bavarian Music Council and on the Board of the State Association for Cultural Education in Bavaria, and has been on the Board of Trustees of the Carl Orff Foundation since 2017.
