Anna Maria Kaufmann (born October 15, 1964 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian - German opera and musical singer.

Life and artistic career

Anna Maria Kaufmann grew up in the town of Lacombe south of Edmonton and at the beginning of her career could only be seen in her free time in clubs and at private events on stage.

She received her training in classical singing at the Robert Schumann Music Institute in Düsseldorf, where she learned from Erika Köth and Claire Watson . In 1990 the soprano got her professional breakthrough in the Hamburg production of the musical Das Phantom der Oper . At the side of Peter Hofmann she sang and played the main female role of the ballet dancer Christine Daaé and was awarded the Golden Europe in 1993 and the Golden Lion in 1994 after more than 500 appearances .
