Johannes Kymaeus
Johannes Kymaeus, also Kimmeus, Kimme, Kime (* 1498 in Fulda ; † November 8, 1552 in Felsberg ) was a Reformed theologian and reformer.
Life
Initially a Franciscan in his hometown, Adam Krafft won Kymaeus for the Reformation in 1527 . From 1529 he studied in Marburg and then became a preacher in Soden (1527–1530) and Homberg (1530–1536). As a level-headed and calm man, he was soon able to reach an influential position. Kymaeus also belonged to the group of theologians who advised Landgrave Philip of Hesse on ecclesiastical issues and who took on larger assignments.
Since he was already trying to win over the Anabaptists in Hesse , he was sent with Anton Corvinus to Munster in November 1535 , where they interrogated the captured Anabaptist leaders. From 1538 Kymaeus was superintendent of the Kassel district, where he also carried out the visitations. During these years he was also involved in the deliberations on the Ziegenhainer Zuchtordnung (1539) and the Kassel church order. Both are signed by him.
He also wrote some pamphlets and composed some songs for worship. In 1548 he fell so seriously ill that he had to give up his office. For the sake of his services he was granted a pension of 60 florins . He died during a visit to Felsberg and was buried on November 10, 1552.
