Bonfire is a German hard rock - band . It was founded in Ingolstadt in 1972 by Hans Ziller under the name Cacumen and renamed Bonfire in 1986 .

history

The band Cacumen, founded by Hans Ziller in 1972, was joined by Claus Lessmann in 1978 . In 1981 the first self-titled album of three was recorded in the further line-up with Hans Ziller, Horst Meier-Thorn, Hans Hauptmann and Hans Forstner.

After the renaming of Cacumen to Bonfire and the change to the record company BMG / RCA in 1986, the Bonfire debut Don't Touch the Light was released , with two new members, Jörg Deisinger (Ex-Dynasty) on bass and Dominik Hülshorst (Ex- Darxon ) on the drums.

In 1987 Dominik Hülshorst left again; his new place of work was Kymera . For him came Edgar Patrik, who had previously played with the band Sinner . In the fall of the same year, the album Fireworks was released.

In 1988 guitarist Horst Meier-Thorn left the band for health reasons, which then engaged Gerhard “Angel” Schleifer from Pretty Maids . During the recording of the third album Point Blank in the following year, Hans Ziller had to leave Bonfire due to business differences that were to occupy the courts for some time. He then formed his own band Ez Livin ' . Bonfire then worked on the soundtrack to Wes Craven's film Shocker , for which the title Sword and Stone was recorded, which Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick had written for the Kiss album Crazy Nights .

The 1991 album Knock Out flopped. Shortly afterwards, Claus Lessmann left the band. Without the two creative minds Lessmann and Ziller, Bonfire was at the end. In 1993 a live album was published practically posthumously, which, indicative of the sudden failure, documented the "Point Blank Tour" instead of the previous "Knock 'Em Out Tour", so it did not contain a single Knock Out song . Meanwhile, Lessmann and Ziller released the EP Glaub dran under the name "Lessmann / Ziller" in the same year , the six songs of which are all in German.

In 1995 Lessmann and Ziller bought the naming rights to Bonfire from the rest of the band. In the meantime, they wrote the score for Joseph Vilsmaier's film Charlie & Louise . The following year the comeback album Feels Like Comin 'Home was released . At the same time, an album was released with the limited edition Freudenfeuer that only contains songs with German lyrics. Angel Schleifer and Jörg Deisinger, who lost their name and who had continued as Charade with the Bonfire short-term member Michael Bormann in 1993 , tried their luck with projects such as Demon Drive (1995, only Schleifer) and Sabu (1996).

In 1997 the album Rebel Soul was released with a new line-up, some of which was brought by Ez Livin '- singer Claus Lessmann, guitarists Hans Ziller and Chris Lausmann, bassist Uwe Köhler and drummer Jürgen "Bam Bam" Wiehler . Claus Lessmann is also known as the interpreter of the famous FC Bayern song FC Bayern, Stern des Südens .

Chris Lausmann left the line-up in 2002 and was replaced by keyboardist Thomas Streck. This was in turn replaced in 2005 by guitarist Chris "Yps" Limburg. In 2007 the DVD Double Vision , produced by the London-based film production company Transistor Pictures, went on sale; Directed by Bernhard Kellerer .

Lessmann and Ziller wrote the music for the rock opera The Räuber , which was performed in the Ingolstadt City Theater from 2008 to 2010 . Bonfire performed live on the theater stage and made the rock opera one of the most successful performances of the Ingolstadt Theater with more than 50 sold out shows. Bonfire released the CD The Räuber for the show, as well as a double DVD with the complete piece, the videos and the new version of You make me feel.

In January 2009, the band announced that they would be separating from Jürgen “Bam-Bam” Wiehler “by mutual agreement and in all friendship”. Dominik Hülshorst, who had already played for Bonfire from 1985 to 1987, returned to the position of drummer after more than twenty years.

In 2010 Bonfire released the single German National Anthem on Universal Music as part of the Soccer World Cup in South Africa. The single made it into the Top 50 Singles Chart and stayed there for 7 weeks.

In an announcement to Proud of My Country in 2010, the then singer Lessmann accused “the Jews ” of “still” earning money from the Holocaust to this day, and demanded: “ That must end ! We finally want to be proud of our country again! ”. In the blog malfunction indicator of the time in January Jetter wrote that Lessmann thus "made manifest in many ways a New Right have nerve" hit. However, the band forbids being associated with right-wing ideas. And again publicly asserted in a live interview on April 8th, 2020 in the "PM7 Studios" to have nothing to do with the right-wing scene or its supporters.

On January 21, 2011 Bonfire's last long player Branded was released with twelve songs, including new editions of the previously released songs I Need You and Rivers of Glory . This album also reached the Top 100 album charts again. In October of the same year the live album Fireworks… Still Alive was released , which in addition to the complete Fireworks album, the four additional tracks You Make Me Feel , Just Follow the Rainbow , Sword and Stone and the Steve Lee tribute I'm on My Way contains.

In 2012 Bonfire and drummer Dominik Hülshorst separated by mutual agreement. The vacant position was filled with Harry "Fireworks" Reischmann, who performed with the band in the Ukraine in March 2012 . In May 2013 the band released the live album Live in Wacken .

In October 2014, the band separated from Lessmann. As a temporary replacement, David Reece (ex-singer of Accept ) was hired, who also sang on Ziller's second project "EZ Livin '", which had been reactivated shortly before.

In 2015 Bonfire also said goodbye to drummer Harry Reischmann. The position was filled with the 22-year-old Tim Breideband, who went on a big “30-years of Bonfire” European tour with Bonfire in 2016.

In July 2016, the band separated from interim shouter David Reece, who was originally supposed to be replaced by ex-Bonfire singer Michael Bormann. As a bridge for Michael Bormann, who was still contractually bound, Alexx Stahl, a singer, was hired for the time until Bormann joined the band, as the band also had to meet contractual deadlines. Stahl was so convincing, however, that Bormann's planned engagement was abandoned and Alexx Stahl announced as a permanent member of the band.
