Life

Steve Lee, the son of a British and a Swiss woman, was born on August 5, 1963 in Horgen. Later his family moved to Ticino , where he learned the trade of a goldsmith . At the age of 12 he bought his first drum kit. From 1988 he was the drummer for the band forsale . In 1990 he and colleagues founded the Swiss rock band Krak , which was renamed Gotthard shortly afterwards . Lee became the lead singer of the most successful band in Switzerland to date and was considered their figurehead.

In addition to his work at Gotthard, Steve Lee sang a cover version of the Beatles song With a Little Help from My Friends with Bo Katzman and John Brack , which reached number 18 on the Swiss singles chart in 1999. He was also on the published 2008 album 01011001 of Ayreon , the progressive rock project of Arjen Lucassen to hear guest vocals. In 2009 he sang with Jon Lord in Classic at the Tonhalle in Zurich . The first solo album was planned for 2011.

Lee saw himself as a "rocker with decency" and was never in the press because of major scandals; rather, he was a popular talk guest . Due to his British roots, his birthplace in the canton of Zurich and his later residence in Ticino, Steve Lee spoke fluent German, English, Italian and French. Lee was also involved in charities and visited the Love Ride in Zurich every year with his Harley-Davidson .

Steve Lee last lived in Porza near Lugano and was in a relationship with Brigitte Voss-Balzarini, Miss Switzerland of 1981.

Lee received the "Tribute Award" posthumously at the Swiss Music Awards 2011.
