Love ride
The Love Ride is an annual, nationwide motorcycle - fundraiser . The Love Ride USA takes place in Glendale , California , the Love Ride Switzerland in Dübendorf near Zurich . These events serve to draw attention to the problems of disabled children (e.g. with muscular dystrophy ) and to collect donations for these purposes . On the other hand, they also promote the reputation of motorcyclists. The highlight of the event is the joint ride of several thousand motorcycles. Disabled children are taken along as pillion riders or in sidecars .
Love Ride USA
In 1981 Oliver Shokouh , Glendale's Harley-Davidson dealer , hosted a Biker's Carnival and raised $ 1,500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association . The idea of a benefit event was further developed and the first Love Ride was organized in 1984 . Actor Peter Fonda and Harley-Davidson executive board member Willie G. Davidson were guests of honor on the occasion. Today the Love Ride USA is the largest one-day motorcycle event in the world. Over 20,000 people with their machines take part. The organization raises well over $ 1 million annually for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Love Ride Switzerland
1993 by was Erwin W. Wyrsch the idea of a motorcycle - charity event along the lines of the US Love Ride in Switzerland taken. On May 1st, 200 people on 99 motorcycles raised 7,500 Swiss francs in donations. These went to the Swiss Society for Muscle Sick People .
The Love Ride Switzerland is in the meantime to the largest one-day motorcycle - charity event in Europe has become. Over 5000 motorcycles and around 20,000 visitors are expected each time. The proceeds for the foundation are over 500,000 Swiss francs.
