Don't Touch the Light is the first studio album by the German hard rock band Bonfire after their name change from Cacumen. It was released on RCA Records in 1986 .
history
On Don't Touch the Light you can still hear drummer Dominik Hülshorst, who had been brought in by the band Darxon shortly before and was dismissed during the recording of the subsequent album Fireworks . The album was co-produced by Dave Hutchins and the band. The songs were mostly written by Jörg Deisinger - also new to the band -, Claus Lessmann and Hans Ziller . It was published worldwide for the first time.
Texts
Unhappy love songs make up the majority of the songs: You Make Me Feel , Longing for You and No More . Hot to Rock glorifies the weekend open air and LA the Californian city of Los Angeles . Starin 'Eyes is about the imperfection of humanity. SDI scratches the then controversial issue of the US missile defense system . Ziller: “Of course, every citizen should be interested in politics, because things like SDI concern everyone. If it ever crashes, everyone is affected, including the headbanger in the front row, and that's why you should at least think about current politics. ”The title track Don't Touch the Light is about a surveillance state whose citizens are so scared that they avoid any room lighting.
Reviews
Reinhard Harms attested the album in the Metal Hammer "liquid melody lines without the music ever being aggressive", but complained about "lengthy phases" due to "identical chord intervals". He awarded 4 out of 7 points. The majority of the other critics gave it 2 points, making it only 15th among the 20 new publications discussed. Ziller was annoyed about this and explained two issues later that for him there was only “one criterion” for “a really good song”, namely a hookline that you could keep in your head and whistle. Allmusic gave the album 2/5.
