Heiner Pudelko

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heiner Pudelko (born August 18, 1948 , † January 11, 1995 ) was a German rhythm 'n' blues and rock singer, who was best known as the head of the band Interzone . Pudelko's specialty was his sophisticated singing style with the seamless leap of his voice into screeching falsetto .

Until 1977

Very early on began in Silesia -born singer, inspired by riots at the Berlin concert by Bill Haley & His Comets making music, founded in 1962 with The Huts in West Berlin a band that just two years later, along with Spencer Davis on stage was standing. In 1968 he founded the band Curly Curve with bassist Kurt Herkenberg, who had just left Tangerine Dream . After Pudelko left Curly Curve in the early 1970s, some musicians became members of Curve who would later be of importance to Pudelko's musical career: guitarist Leo Lehr and drummer Hans Wallbaum.

1978 to 1987

When the Nina Hagen Band celebrated their first major successes in 1978 , it was like an initial spark for Pudelko. The texts of the writer Wolf Wondratschek had done it to him, he wanted to set them to music. At that time, Herkenberg, Wallbaum and Lehr came up to him and together they founded the band Interzone in 1979 .

Kurt Herkenberg soon left the project and the trio Pudelko, Wallbaum and Lehr merged with bassist Ralf “Trotter” Schmidt, Mario “BiBi” Schulz and keyboardist Axel Fuhrmann from the Berlin Bar Band to form the second Interzone formation. In a bunker in Berlin-Kreuzberg, they recorded the first Interzone record with the four-track tape recorder made by Udo Arndt, a sound engineer who was hardly known at the time: a single that was later called Kinderlieder aus Beton . The photographer and music enthusiast Jim Rakete , who also took the poster image of the debut single, helped them with the packaging.

After a successful performance by Interzone in the summer of 1980 in front of the Berlin Bethanien , the record company WEA Pudelko and his band offered a record deal. The first long-playing record was recorded, again with Arndt as sound engineer and co-producer. However, it turned out that the WEA was only interested in the rights of the Wondratschek song lyrics. Therefore, the development at Interzone stagnated for months, but Pudelko's own lyrics, which he wrote during this time, put the band back on the road to success. The five recorded the first "official" band album with the group name as the title in early 1981 on their own with Udo Arndt as co-producer. Only a week before the end of the recording, WEA gave in and offered the band a fair contract.

The debut album, released in the summer of 1981, and the successor, Aus Liebe , released two years later, are still among the outstanding productions of Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW). The Neue Deutsche Welle turned out to be absolutely incompatible with the hard, blues and rock based music of Pudelko. Furthermore, several deaths within a few years from the immediate environment of Interzone ( Kurt Herkenberg † 1983, Conny Plank † 1987, Leo Lehr † 1988) overshadowed Pudelko's career, who after the last Interzone album entitled Das süsse Leben (1985 released) released two solo albums. The first solo album was produced by the ex- Ideal musicians Annette Humpe and Conny Plank, who, however, died during the production.

1988 to 1995

After Interzone ended, Heiner Pudelko wrote various pieces of music for the youth TV show Moskito and worked with Stanley Clarke on the Curt Cress solo album Sing , with Heinz Rudolf Kunze ( good entertainment ) and Manfred Maurenbrecher ( the boy can paint ).

1991 appeared with Gloria , produced by Curt Cress , a comeback album, which was also accompanied by a television appearance with Jürgen von der Lippe . After several serious illnesses, a brain tumor was discovered in Pudelko in 1993 that was supposed to be fought with chemotherapy. Pudelko recorded a few more demos for a new record, but died almost a year and a half later at the age of 46 from complications from cancer.
