State today is a news program of the ORF , which is broadcast daily at 7 p.m. on ORF 2 in a regional window (local exit). The program deals with news, topics and events from the respective federal state, nine ORF state studios use it to broadcast daily information for the audience in the individual federal states. The predecessor was the show Österreich-Bild (from 1967).

The ORF also produces the program Südtirol heute in the regional studio Tyrol, which is broadcast on working days from Monday to Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the regional program for Tyrol and thus also in the Italian province of South Tyrol and which is presented in the presentation of the other state today programs equals. Since October 2012 there has been a regular exchange of moderators between “Tirol heute” and “Südtirol heute”.

designation

State today is a general term for this broadcast, depending on the federal state Burgenland today, Carinthia today, Lower Austria today, Upper Austria today, Salzburg today, Styria today, Tyrol today, Vorarlberg today, Vienna today or South Tyrol today .

A location-independent reception of all ten regional programs on ORF 2 is possible via satellite. With the help of an Astra reception, this would also work in other European countries, but the license provisions of the ORF digital card prohibit reception outside Austria and South Tyrol. ORF2E via satellite only broadcasts the Viennese local window, as well as the unencrypted ORF2 channels in SD in Salzburg and Tyrol, although there are no license problems. In addition, all of the federal state broadcasts can be viewed on the Internet in ORF TVthek for up to seven days after broadcast. In the initial phase of the station from October 2011 on ORF III, all issues from the federal state were repeated today in the night program.

"Refreshment"

At the same time as the redesign of the ORF 2 broadcaster on January 9, 2012, the make-up of the state was also renewed today. The arrangement of the show decorations and the position of the moderator have since had a uniform regulation. The flat screens in the background, which refer to the following articles, are now larger and have been placed uniformly. The entire on-screen design was given a uniform structure; this includes all elements from the leader to the lower panel. Since then, the logo of the program (abbreviation of the federal state + today) has been displayed continuously in the middle of the lower edge of the screen. Since the 2018 refreshment, the consignment logo has been displayed uniformly on the left edge. The different color codes that accompanied the individual programs from the start remain unchanged. Since October 25, 2014, all ORF2 regional programs and thus the state-today programs have also been broadcast in HDTV .

On May 2, 2018 - on the occasion of the anniversary "30 years of the state today" - another refreshment was carried out. The signature, logo and overlays have been renewed. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the program, 9 main evening programs were broadcast on May 4, 2018 - for the first time in the history of ORF - from the respective federal states (as part of the local exits) at the same time (at 8:15 p.m.).

Since 2018, the programs Österreich heute (at 7:18 p.m.) and Austria heute - Das Magazin (7:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.) have been broadcast on ORF III Monday to Friday with summarized reports from all federal states. The program is moderated by Christine Mayer-Bohusch .

State compact today

Since 2017, ORF 2 has been broadcasting Federal State Today Compact (currently in all federal states except Salzburg and Burgenland) as part of the local exit of the ORF state studios at 4:57 p.m. in front of the ZIB 5:00 p.m. In Vienna the title of the broadcast is "Wien heute express". The program is designed in particular for retrieval on mobile devices ; it is also available in portrait format via social networks .

Ethnic group programs

For minorities living in Austria, the Slovene-language programs Dober dan, Štajerska and Dober dan, Koroška (Guten Tag, Styria or Guten Tag, Carinthia) for Styria and Carinthia and the Croatian-language program Dobar dan Hrvati (Guten Tag Kroaten) for Burgenland produces. However, these two 30-minute programs are only broadcast on Sundays at 1.30 p.m. in Carinthia and Styria or Burgenland and are repeated nationwide in the ORF 2-night program. The Slovenian-language program will also be repeated on Mondays at 3:10 p.m. in the first program of TV Slovenija  .

Since March 8, 2009 there is a Hungarian magazine: Adj'Isten magyarok , which is broadcast on the second Sunday of the odd month at 13:05 in Burgenland and Vienna (25 minutes). Since August 2009, their counterparts in Czech and Slovak ( České ozvěny / Slovenské ozveny ) have been broadcast on the second Sunday of the even month at 13:05 in Vienna.

The multilingual program Servus Szia Zdravo Del tuha is broadcast on the second Sunday of the even month in Burgenland (25 minutes in Romani, Burgenland- Croatian , Hungarian and German).

Since May 15, 2011, selected contributions from Vienna Today have been subtitled in Turkish in the information format Vienna Today - Haber Magazine and broadcast in Turkish by the Vienna-today weather presenter Eser Akbaba . The Turkish "Haber" means "message". The magazine is broadcast on Sundays at 11 a.m. and on Fridays at 10 p.m. on the Okto public channel. The idea arose from conversations with the Turkish state television TRT , which were thinking about broadcasting state-today programs with subtitles via its own satellite program. The background to this are also studies that show that groups of viewers with a migration background rarely watch ORF programs. With the show you want to take a step towards them.

Others

On May 22, 2019, the transmission of all Bundesland heute broadcasts was canceled due to a technical defect in the A1 network , via which the state studios are connected to the ORF center in Vienna. Instead, a special edition of the news magazine Aktuell in Austria was broadcast. The recorded Bundesland heute broadcasts were broadcast on ORF 2 the next day at 9:05 a.m. On that same day, May 23, the 10,000th edition of the program was broadcast in each state in the evening.
