Ingrid Thurnher (born July 6, 1962 in Bludenz , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian television presenter and journalist . She has been editor-in-chief of ORF III since 2017 .

education

Ingrid Thurnher moved with her parents from Vorarlberg to Vienna at the age of 9.

After graduating from school, she studied journalism and theater, film and media studies for a few semesters at the University of Vienna and then attended the Franz Schubert Conservatory. In 1985 she came to ORF after successfully completing a speaker test. While working, Thurnher completed a business MBA program.

Career

At the beginning Ingrid Thurnher worked as a TV announcer and from 1986 to 1991 she worked as an editor in the current service in the Lower Austria regional studio. She moderated “Country and People”, “Austria Image”, “Austria Today” and “Lower Austria Today”.

In 1991 Thurnher moved to ORF radio (Mittagsjournal) as home affairs editor and worked there until 1994.

From 1995, Ingrid Thurnher was together with other television journalists ( Robert Hochner , Armin Wolf ) the "face" of the evening news of the ORF ( ZiB 2 ).

Her interview on August 21, 1997 with comedian Otto Waalkes , who called her “Frau Turnschuh” during the interview, hugged her and finally crawled under the moderator's desk, became legendary.  

On April 4, 2007, her employment as a ZiB-2 moderator ended. At the start of an ORF program reform on April 10, 2007, she switched to Zeit im Bild at 7:30 p.m. (ZiB 1), which she moderated together with Gerald Groß until March 9, 2008.

From 2008 to 2016 Ingrid Thurnher was the main presenter of the ORF discussion programs on daily politics “ In the center ” and “Round table”.

Ingrid Thurnher moderated the election duels of the top candidates of the parties in the run-up to the National Council elections in 2006, 2008 and 2013 as part of ORF reporting. On the occasion of the National Council election in 2013 and the Federal President's election in 2016, she also led the ORF TV confrontations with the TV duels. During Armin Wolf's educational leave, Ingrid Thurnher presented ZIB 2 again from the end of September 2009 to June 2010. From 2009 to 2011 she also hosted the ORF “Summer Talks”.

Ingrid Thurnher has been editor-in-chief of the information and culture channel ORF III since January 2017 and discusses current developments in the areas of society, economy, the environment and politics with politicians and experts every Thursday.

In 2003 she starred in the film Brothers II .

Media debates

Due to numerous hate comments, sexist insults, rape and death threats on the Internet, Ingrid Thurnher took the initiative against misogyny and sexual violence on the Internet together with Corinna Milborn from Puls 4 , Hanna Herbst from Vice and the freelance journalist Barbara Kaufmann in 2016 . The campaign triggered a wave of solidarity by the four renowned Austrian journalists. Thousands of people joined the campaign using the hashtags #solidaritystorm, #aufstehn and #unsreichts via Twitter, Facebook and Co.

Private

Ingrid Thurnher is married to the finance manager Andreas Grünbichler .

Awards

In 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2009 she received the Golden Romy for the moderation of the ORF information programs .
