Gaby Schwarz , also Gabriela Schwarz , (born September 3, 1962 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian television and radio presenter of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). She has been a politician for the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) since August 2017 , and since November 2017 she has been the ÖVP's deputy club chairman and member of the National Council , where she also acts as the area spokesperson for health. At the beginning of 2020 she became Deputy General Secretary of the ÖVP.

Life

Gabriela Schwarz was born as the daughter of ÖVP politician Alois Schwarz (1932–2007), Mayor of Eisenstadt from 1990 to 2002. After graduating from the Bundesgymnasium Eisenstadt in 1981, she began studying journalism and political science at the University of Vienna . At the same time, she attended the Bavarian Academy for Television from 1982 to 1985 .

In 1980 she began her professional career in the youth editorial team of the ORF regional studio Burgenland as editor and presenter. On May 2, 1988, she presented the first issue of the daily ORF information program Burgenland heute , which she subsequently presented alongside Licht ins Dunkel , Treffpunkt Burgenland and various radio programs over several years. For nine years she was the head of the marketing department and from 2008 onwards she was responsible for the ORF Radio Burgenland . Ursula Hofmeister succeeded her as program director on April 1, 2018.

Since 2014 she has been the organizational head of the crisis intervention of the Red Cross in Burgenland and a member of the disaster command of the Red Cross Burgenland.

On August 12, 2017, she ended her work for ORF. Four days later she was presented as the top candidate on the state list of the ÖVP Burgenland for the 2017 National Council election and fourth on the ÖVP federal list on the Sebastian Kurz list . In the course of the formation of the government after the 2017 National Council election, she negotiates the social and consumer department on the ÖVP side . On November 8, 2017, she was elected as the ÖVP's deputy chairman. In the ÖVP parliamentary club , she acts as the successor to Erwin Rasinger as health spokesperson . In the XXVI. During the legislative period , she was a member of the Committee on Consumer Protection, the Committee on Petitions and Citizens' Initiatives, the Health Committee, the Ombudsman Committee and the BVT Investigation Committee.

In the 2019 National Council election, she ran again as the ÖVP's top candidate in the Burgenland electoral district and in eighth place on the federal list. Before the beginning of the XXVII. During the legislative period , she was re-elected as deputy chairman on October 22, 2019. As part of the coalition negotiations for the formation of a government in 2019 , she negotiates in the two main groups state, society and transparency as well as social security, new justice and poverty reduction.

Due to Karl Nehammer's move to the Ministry of the Interior, Axel Melchior became his successor General Secretary of the ÖVP at the beginning of 2020 , while Schwarz became his deputy.
