List of Members of the Austrian National Council (XXVIth legislative period)
This list of the members of the Austrian National Council (XXVI. Legislative period) lists all members of the Austrian National Council in the XXVI. Legislative period. The legislative period began with the constituent session of the National Council on November 9, 2017. After the National Council election on October 15, 2017, 62 of the 183 mandates went to the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), 52 to the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), and 51 to the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and 10 on the NEOS - Das Neue Österreich and Liberales Forum .
For the first time as an elected party, the Peter Pilz list is represented with eight MPs, a spin-off from the party Die Grünen - Die Grüne Alternative (GRÜNE). These failed to make it into parliament because of the four percent hurdle .
The constituent meeting of the following XXVII. The legislative period was on October 23, 2019.
statistics
The proportion of women in the Austrian parliament rose from 31 percent to 34 percent (from 57 MPs to 63). The proportion of men fell from 69 to 66 percent (from 126 MPs to 120). The Pilz list has the highest proportion of women with 50 percent, followed by the SPÖ with 46 percent. The NEOS have 40 percent women, and 32 percent of the National Council members of the ÖVP are women, and 22 percent of the FPÖ.
The average age of the mandataries has fallen by around five years and is now 47 years and five months. Previously it was 52 years and three months. If the composition of the National Council remains the same for the next five years, the average age at the end of the legislative period would be roughly the same as last. It is noticeable that each parliamentary group has at least one MP under the age of 30. Most mandataries under the age of 35 are provided by the ÖVP. Karlheinz Kopf (ÖVP) is the longest-serving parliamentarian. The oldest member in years of age is Irmgard Griss from NEOS (born 1946), the youngest Claudia Plakolm from ÖVP (born 1994). For 79 of the 183 mandataries it is the first period in the National Council. Six MPs managed to return to the National Council after a long break, and five members moved from the Federal Council to the National Council.
On their mandates waived among other Hanspeter Doskozil (Nachrückerin Klaudia Friedl ), Veronika Matiasek , Beate Meinl Reisinger (Nachrückerin Stephanie Krisper ), Norbert Nemeth (Nachrückerin Jessi Lintl ), Peter Pilz (Nachrückerin Martha Bißmann ) and Hans Jörg Schelling (Nachrückerin Michaela Steinacker ). The FPÖ politician Johann Gudenus originally waived his mandate, but moved up on December 20, 2017 and was appointed the executive club chairman of his parliamentary group.
Bureau
The choice of the three National Presidents took place immediately after the constitution and swearing in of the deputies in the first session on November 9, 2017. Traditionally, occupies the largest party, the position of the President, the second and each third strongest to the Second and Third NR-president. Elisabeth Köstinger (ÖVP) ran for President of the National Council . Since at the time of the election it was not yet clear whether Köstinger would remain in this office for a longer period of time or would take over a ministerial office in the course of the formation of the government, her candidacy was described by the NEOS as a “disdain” of parliament. In the constituent meeting they announced that they would elect the previous second president of the National Council, Karlheinz Kopf (ÖVP) (votes are also valid if they are for persons who can be elected who are not nominations). Köstinger was elected president with 117 of 175 valid votes (66.9 percent). 56 votes were given to heads, two more to other names. Doris Bures (SPÖ), who was still president in the previous legislative period, was elected second president . They received 115 of 174 valid votes (66.1 percent). The National Council elected Norbert Hofer (FPÖ), who had previously held this office, as the third president . He received the most valid votes with 132 out of 158 (83.5 percent).
With the appointment of Köstinger and Hofer as Federal Ministers of the Kurz I Government on December 18, 2017, the offices of President and Third President had to be filled again. The election took place on December 20, 2017, and the former Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP) was elected President of the National Council with 106 of 173 valid votes (61.3 percent). Karlheinz Kopf received 65 votes, another two to other names. With 102 of 142 valid votes (71.8 percent) Anneliese Kitzmüller (FPÖ) was elected Third President.
