Wolfgang Gerstl (born October 14, 1961 in St. Pölten ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From April 27, 2001 to September 13, 2011, he was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and City Council . After Wolfgang Schüssel resigned at the beginning of September 2011, Gerstl took over his mandate in the National Council on September 9, 2011 .

education and profession

Wolfgang Gerstl attended the modern language grammar school in St. Pölten and Horn and studied law at the University of Vienna after graduating from high school . In 1986 he completed his studies with the degree "Magister iuris". He is a member of the Catholic student union KaV Norica Vienna .

Gerstl entered the Vienna Police School in 1980 and served in the alarm department. After completing his studies, he was accepted into the legal service of the Federal Ministry of Science and Research in 1987 and in 1989 was employed in the office of the Federal Minister of Defense. In December 1990 he was appointed head of the office of the Federal Minister for National Defense. In August 1997 he moved to the ÖVP Vienna as regional manager. Gerstl carried out this activity until June 2002.

politics

Wolfgang Gerstl was heavily involved in district politics. He was active in the ÖVP Penzing from 1989 and from that year Section Chairman of Section X in Penzing. From 1993 to 1996 he was ÖAAB district group chairman and was elected district party chairman in July 1996. In November 1996 he was sworn in as a district councilor and took over the management of the Penzinger ÖVP club. In April 2001 he resigned his district council mandate and moved to the Vienna state parliament and local council. From 2001 he was the traffic spokesman for the Vienna ÖVP.

Since September 9, 2011, Gerstl has been a member of the Austrian National Council and constitutional spokesman for the ÖVP.

In the legislative period up to 2013 he is a member of the following committees: Main Committee; Subcommittee of the constitutional committee; Internal Affairs Committee; Constitutional Committee.
