Franz Eßl

Franz Leonhard Eßl (born July 19, 1957 in Tamsweg ) is an Austrian farmer, politician ( ÖVP ) and member of the Austrian National Council .

Franz Eßl attended primary school between 1963 and 1967 and then secondary school until 1971. In 1973 he began training as a farmer at the agricultural college. After graduating from technical school in 1975, Eßl completed military service from 1976 to 1977 and passed the master craftsman's examination in 1979. He has been working as a farmer and forester at the Urbangut in Pöllitz, Tamsweg since 1979 and was appointed to the economic council in 2007.

Political career

Franz Eßl began his political career in 1984 as a councilor in his home town of Tamsweg. In 1989 he was promoted to deputy mayor of the municipality, a position he held until 1994. Eßl was also involved in the Chamber of Agriculture and the Austrian Farmers' Union . Initially, between 1990 and 1995, he was chairman of the Tamsweg district chamber of farmers. Since 1995 he has been President of the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry, since 1997 Regional Chairman of the Salzburg Farmers' Union and since 2000 Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Conference of the Austrian Chambers of Agriculture.

On December 20, 2002, Franz Eßl became a member of the Austrian National Council. Since the 2006 elections he has represented the ÖVP through a mandate from the regional constituency 5C (Lungau / Pinzgau / Pongau) in the National Council and is a member of the budget, agriculture and forestry, transport and ombudsman committees. His political priorities are in the area of ​​rural development, job creation and security issues.

In the legislative period up to 2013 he is a member of the following committees: Finance Committee; Agriculture and Forestry Committee; Human Rights Committee; Budget committee.

Rupert Quehenberger was designated as his successor as regional chairman of the Salzburg Farmers' Union and President of the Salzburg Chamber of Agriculture in 2018.

Private

Franz Eßl is married and has three children.
