Gerald Hauser (born September 30, 1961 in St. Jakob in Defereggen , East Tyrol ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ), member of the National Council and former mayor of St. Jakob in Defereggen.

education and profession

Gerald Hauser attended elementary school between 1968 and 1972 and then moved to the secondary school in Lienz , where he graduated in 1980 with the Matura . He then began his studies in business education at the University of Innsbruck , which he obtained in 1985 with the title Mag. Rer. soc. oec ended.

In 1985, Hauser began teaching commercial subjects at the commercial academy and business school in Lienz. Due to his political career, he is currently on leave as a teacher. In addition to his work as a teacher, Hauser has been tourism director of the St. Jakob community in Defereggen since 1988. He held positions in various tourism associations and in 1992 became a supervisory board member for East Tyrol advertising and national park advisory board. Through his work as managing director of a hotel from 1998 and managing partner of an Apresschilokal in St. Jakob from 1989, Hauser also gained experience in the hospitality industry.

Political career

Hauser made his first political experiences in his home community. His grandfather was mayor of St. Jakob for twelve years. Hauser has been a member of the parish council of St. Jakob since 1988, and between 1999 and 2003 he was also a member of the Tyrolean state parliament . In 2004 Hauser was elected regional party chairman of the FPÖ Tirol. In the 2006 National Council elections , Hauser entered the Austrian National Council through constituency 7 (Tyrol). His political focus is on control, tourism and school policy. Between 2005 and 2010, Hauser was also the FPÖ's Federal Deputy Party Chairman.

Hauser was confirmed as FPÖ state party leader on June 23, 2007 with 91.8 percent of the delegate votes. In his speech he was directed against minaret buildings in Tyrol (Hauser also played a notable role during the minaret dispute in Telfs in 2005), the “progressive Islamization” and advocated German as the compulsory language for sermons and the self-determination of South Tyrol. In December 2007, Hauser announced that he would run as the top candidate in the 2008 Tyrolean state elections. In this state parliament election, the FPÖ achieved 12.41% and thus four seats. In his home town of St. Jakob im Defereggen and in neighboring St. Veit, the FPÖ was even the party with the strongest vote. Hauser resigned from the National Council on July 7, 2008 and moved into the Tyrolean state parliament as the FPÖ's club chairman , where he was sworn in on July 1, 2008.

On March 14, 2010, Hauser was elected mayor of his home community St. Jakob in Defereggen ( Lienz district ). He ran again as the top candidate in the state elections in 2013 , but drove with only 9.3 percent, a minus of 3.1 percent. Although he subsequently took over the office of chairman of the FPÖ state parliament club again, he no longer ran for FPÖ state chairman in 2013 and switched back to the national council on October 29, 2013, to which he had already been between October 30, 2006 and September 7. July 2008.

In the runoff election for mayor on March 13, 2016, he was defeated by his challenger Ingo Hafele.

Private

Gerald Hauser has been married since 1995 and has three children.
