Peter Kolba

Peter Kolba (born January 17, 1959 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer , consumer advocate , author and politician ( List Pilz ). From 1990 to 2017 he was head of the legal department at the Association for Consumer Information (VKI). From November 9, 2017 to June 4, 2018 he was a member of the Austrian National Council , where he also served as the club chairman of the Pilz list . From September 2018 he was civil rights spokesman for the Pilz list.

Life

From 1977 Peter Kolba studied law at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in law in 1983 . He then completed a court year at various courts in Vienna and worked as a trainee lawyer, in 1990 he passed the first partial examination for the bar exam. From March 1990 to January 2017 he was head of the legal department at the Association for Consumer Information , where he advocated consumer rights through model processes as well as association and class actions. On ORF he was seen in the program Bürgeranwalt presented by Peter Resetarits . From 2013 to 2016 he was also editor-in-chief of the magazine for consumer law. In March 2017, he started his own business with partners and founded a platform for class actions, which he left in June 2017.

In June 2018 he founded the Association for the Protection of Consumer Interests (Consumer Protection Association) to deal with issues that are not dealt with by the Association for Consumer Information and the Chamber of Labor , for example the withdrawal from life insurance policies in the event of wrongful information.

In July 2017, his candidacy on the Peter Pilz list was announced in the 2017 National Council election . In the election, the Pilz list in Lower Austria reached 4.1% and Kolba was thus able to move into the newly elected National Council via the provincial list in which he was first. On November 8, 2017, he was elected club chairman of the Pilz list. He also acts as the area spokesman for civil rights in the National Council. In the XXVI. Kolba suffers from polyneuropathy and advocates the liberalization of cannabis for medical purposes .

On April 16, 2018, Peter Kolba announced his resignation as club chairman of the Pilz list, planned for April 30, 2018. He also resigned from the party, but remained in the Pilz list club. On April 27, 2018, his resignation as club chairman of the Pilz list on May 31, 2018 was announced. On May 31, 2018, he announced that he would also resign from his National Council mandate. On June 1, 2018, he informed the Lower Austrian state electoral authority in a letter that he was resigning from his mandate. Kolba announced via Twitter that he would continue to be politically active outside parliament. He wanted "nothing more to do" with the Pilz list, for which he had entered the National Council. His successors as club chairmen were Bruno Rossmann (club chairman ) and Wolfgang Zinggl (executive club chairman). Instead of Kolba, Peter Pilz entered the National Council as a Member of Parliament after Maria Stern renounced her mandate as the second member of the Lower Austrian electoral district and Alfred J. Noll , who came to the National Council via the federal list, succeeded her.

In September 2018 Kolba returned to List Pilz as civil rights spokesman, but without taking on a mandate.
