The vehicles of the type Tatra 6MT were two-axle tramcars for the meter-gauge tram operations in Czechoslovakia that in the years 1949 to 1953 by the nationalized for 1,946 companies np Tatra , the former Ringhoffer works belonging Waggonfabriken Studénka and Česká Lípa had been made. A few cars were built in the workshops of the Bratislava Transport Company on the basis of older chassis.
history
The first 15 vehicles of the type 6MT, which were manufactured in Studénka, were given to the Bratislava transport company in 1949. Another series of 60 railcars built in Česká Lípa was delivered between 1952 and 1953 to the North Bohemian meter gauge companies in Jablonec nad Nisou , Most , Liberec , Teplice and Ústí nad Labem , where they replaced older types of railcars in regular service. The closure of the plants in Teplice (1959), Most (1961), Jablonec nad Nisou (1965) and Ústí nad Labem (1970) quickly led to extensive vehicle relocations and, ultimately, to the early discontinuation of the entire series. The last remaining North Bohemian narrow-gauge company in Liberec finally decommissioned its vehicles after the arrival of modern four-axle one-way wagons of the types Tatra T2 and T3 in 1973, Bratislava 1974.
Car 117 of the Jablonec nad Nisou tram has been preserved as an exhibit in the Brno Technical Museum . Restored in the delivery condition, it is now in the care of the Boveraclub in Liberec. Occasionally it is used there on the historic tram line 1.

technical features
The cars corresponded to the state of the art for two-axle cars at the time. The car body was suspended on the two-axle chassis. The classic mechanical drive switch had 10 + 8 speed levels and 10 braking levels. In addition to the usual electrodynamic brake, there was also a magnetic rail brake as braking equipment .
The electrical equipment was manufactured by the Bratislava Electrotechnical Works (Bratislavské elektrotechnické závody), while the second series included the drive switches from Škoda in Plzeň.
