The Tatra T6C5 is a type of tram designed for the American market by the Czech manufacturer ČKD Tatra . There is only one T6C5 prototype that is used by the Strausberger Eisenbahn .

history

The T6C5 was built in 1998 in the Czech Republic. On July 27th and 28th, 1998, the T6C5 took its first test drive between Repy and Andel. Also in 1998 he was transported to New Orleans in the USA . ČKD -Tatra hoped for sales successes with American tram operators due to the low price. Due to various delays, the first test drives were not carried out until September 1999, and from February 2000 the T6C5 then drove on the Canal-Esplanade line.

From the summer of 2000 it was parked in the depot because of a defect in the air conditioning. Since ČKD Tatra was no longer able to deliver spare parts due to the bankruptcy, the car remained in the depot until June 2001 and was then returned to the manufacturer. The sales success in the USA was accordingly lacking. On April 25, 2003, the T6C5 was transferred to Strausberg by low loader. There it is used sporadically in late night traffic and on weekends and replaces the old TZ 69 reco wagons .
