Tatra T2R (modernized T2) as a service vehicle in Brno

Tatra T2 is the type designation for a tram from the manufacturer Vagonka Tatra Smíchov , which was designed according to the American PCC system. A total of 771 vehicles were built between 1955 and 1962 . The T2 was built as a standard tram car for Czechoslovakia .

Types

T2

In 1955 two test cars were tested in Prague , they were given the numbers 6001 and 6002. It was not until 1958 that serial vehicles were delivered to almost all tram companies in Czechoslovakia, only in Jablonec nad Nisou and Prague the cars were not used, because in Jablonec they were still over the whereabouts of the meter-gauge lines were discussed and the network of the Czech capital was not yet designed for operation with 2.5 m wide vehicles.

Unlike their predecessors of the T1 type , they were built to be more robust and therefore more durable. Most of the vehicles were retired by the 1980s, although some museum vehicles and work cars have survived today. Only in Liberec are T2 still (only again since 1995) being used as planned until today, after they had already been removed from the portfolio in 1988. These are vehicles that were bought second-hand from Ostrava , as more and more standard-gauge vehicles were required in the course of the change of gauge to standard gauge. The last two T2 in regular use worldwide are therefore wagons 26 and 27 in Liberec. Operation with T2 on standard gauge ended in the spring of 2006, the use of unmodernized T2 on August 26, 2006 with the end of the construction sites on the overland railway. Some vehicles were already externally and partially also technically adapted to the successor types T3 in the 1960s .

T2SU

380 vehicles came under the designation T2SU to the Soviet Union , where they held their own in regular service until the 1980s. In contrast to the T2 vehicles, the T2SUs delivered later did not have the middle double door, which resulted in a higher number of seats. However, the first cars also had three doors. In addition, some cars were designed for operation under the harsh climatic conditions of the Soviet Union.
