Tatra RT6S is the type designation of a partially low-floor tram from ČKD Tatra . The three-part car was originally intended as the successor to the Tatra RT6N1 .

history

The car was presented on September 17, 1996 at the Brno Fair . It was the second low-floor prototype with Siemens electrical engineering. The joint work of Tatra ( car body ), Siemens (electrics), DUEWAG chassis from the Czech manufacturer Tatra was first used as a test vehicle in Prague in the nights of August 1998 and later sold to the Liberec transport company . The car with the number 85, repainted especially for the city in December, arrived in Liberec. In the same month he ran 2,000 test kilometers in Liberec, so that he could drive in regular service for the first time on December 31. Because of its partly green color, the car was nicknamed "Crocodile". Another five vehicles should be delivered by 2003. However, this was no longer fulfilled due to the dissolution of ČKD Tatra. Since the end of 1999, the only RT6S that was produced had been idle due to problems with the electronics and the brakes , was then made ready to drive again in June 2000 and was back in regular service since the beginning of July 2000.

Since the end of 2003 the car has been parked again in Liberec and is no longer in use. The reason for this was the inefficiency due to the too rapid wear of the wheels, which is due to the small diameter. The car is now in the depot of the Liberec Transport Company.
