The T6A5 is a type of tram from the Czech manufacturer ČKD Tatra .
development
The T6A5 was designed for the Czechoslovak tram company, the type T6A2 developed for the GDR served as the technical basis. The biggest difference between the two types lies in the width of the car body, which, at 2500 mm, is 300 mm larger for the T6A5 than for the T6A2 / B6A2. For the T6A5, the car body and dimensions were taken from the T5A5 0013.
In 1992, Bratislava was the first city to receive 34 railcars. In the autumn of the same year 30 wagons were delivered to Košice .
The Czech capital Prague , where the vehicles were manufactured, did not use the vehicles for test drives until 1995, and one year later in regular service. A total of 150 cars were delivered to the Prague public transport company between 1995 and 1997. Other customers were Brno and Ostrava . Bratislava is the only city for which wagons of this type were delivered with meter gauge.
Compared to the T6A2, the vehicles have been further developed in details. They were the first type for Czechoslovak companies to be equipped with door opening buttons. In contrast to the T6A2, the first and third doors were four-part folding doors, they are located in the tapered car body. The wagons for Prague, Brno and the last series for Bratislava (7947 to 7958) were fitted with external pivoting doors and digital displays. The older cars were later converted to digital displays. The Prague wagons received + GF + couplings (type GFT) with Sécheron contact attachments , via which the traction current is also transmitted to the guided wagon. This was not possible with the previous cars in Prague, the multiple control line only transmits the control current. When driving in double traction, the second car is ironed out.
After accidents, the number series 8601 - 8750 is no longer complete: first the 8671 car was eliminated, later after a driveway the 8697 and 8698 cars. In the meantime, other cars have been retired; some were delivered to Sofia (Bulgaria). Some cars were also sold to Brno. The Prague transport company wants to part with the T5A5 in the long term, as the platforms are gradually being converted to stepless entrances in low-floor wagons and the position of the first and third door in the area of the car body taper creates a wide gap, which represents a risk of accidents. In addition, when the doors are opened, they hit the platform edges that have been adapted in this way. Therefore, the T6A5 can no longer be used in the entire Prague network.
Car 8603 is a curiosity. It was secretly parked overnight in a field next to a motorway in early May. The police are investigating illegal disposal and advertising next to a motorway. (Advertising next to a motorway is prohibited in the Czech Republic.)
