Henry Øberg

Henry Øberg (born August 18, 1931 - November 23, 2011 ) was a Norwegian football referee .

Athletic career

Between 1966 and 1981 Øberg led 145 games in the Eliteserien , in 1970, 1971 and 1973 he was named referee of the year in his home country. In 1968 he was at the final of the Norwegian National Cup between double winner Lyn Oslo and the second division Mjøndalen IF on the field. He also whistled at international level, among other things, he was a referee at the 1972 Olympic football tournament and as part of qualifying for the 1972 European Championship finals and the 1974 World Cup finals .

At his last league game, 50-year-old Øberg was welcomed with standing ovations by 16,000 spectators in Oslo . He later mentored junior referees, including FIFA referee Svein-Erik Edvartsen .

In 2004, Øberg suffered a heart attack at an event held by former footballers . He died in 2011 at the age of 80.
