Walter Rauch (born February 7, 1978 in Feldbach ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ). Rauch has been a member of the Austrian National Council since 2013 .

Walter Rauch was born on February 7, 1978 in Feldbach in Styria and grew up in neighboring Bad Gleichenberg . Rauch attended elementary and secondary school there before moving to the Feldbach commercial school in 1993 and then to the Graz commercial academy in 1996, where he graduated in 1999 . On November 8, 2010, Walter Rauch joined the State of Styria as a state employee.

Political career

In 2009 Walter Rauch was first elected local party chairman of the FPÖ in Bad Gleichenberg and then also district party chairman in the Feldbach district (today the district of Southeast Styria ). On March 21, 2010 he was elected a member of the municipal council of Merkendorf , which at that time was still an independent municipality and today is a cadastral municipality of Bad Gleichenberg. Following the 2013 National Council election , in which Walter Rauch was able to obtain a basic mandate in the regional constituency of Eastern Styria , he was sworn in for the first time as a member of the Austrian National Council on October 29, 2013. As such, he became known to the wider public when he was nominated as one of four FPÖ MPs in the Hypo Investigation Committee in February 2015 . Rauch has been the FPÖ's environmental spokesman since autumn 2015.

In the course of the formation of the government after the National Council election in 2017 , he negotiated on the FPÖ side in the two specialist groups Environment and Agriculture and Rural Areas .

After the National Council election in 2019 , Rauch was able to obtain a basic mandate again in his constituency of Eastern Styria and thus moved back to the National Council. He is also the environmental spokesman for his group in the new period.
