Merkendorf is a former municipality and since 2015 part of the municipality of Bad Gleichenberg in Südoststeiermark District of Styria with 1,143 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2014).

Merkendorf is located about 43 km southeast of Graz and about 11 km south of the district capital Feldbach in the eastern Styrian hill country .

Structure of the former municipality

Merkendorf consisted of four cadastral communities (area as of December 31, 2019):

  • Hague (153.18 ha)
  • Merkendorf (534.10 ha)
  • Waldsberg (238.95 ha)
  • Wilhelmsdorf (195.76 ha)

Former neighboring communities

history

On January 1, 1948, the communities of Haag, Waldsberg and Wilhelmsdorf were incorporated into Merkendorf.

On January 1, 2015, Merkendorf was merged with the communities of Bairisch-Kölldorf , Bad Gleichenberg and Trautmannsdorf in Eastern Styria as part of the municipal structural reform in Styria . The new municipality continues to bear the name "Bad Gleichenberg".

The last municipal council consisted of 15 members and in the municipal council election 2010 was composed of mandates from the following parties:
