Stainz bei Straden is a former municipality in south-east Styria with 943 inhabitants (as of October 31, 2013) in the district of south-east Styria . On January 1, 2015, it was incorporated into the municipality of Straden as part of the municipal structural reform in Styria with the previously independent municipalities of Krusdorf and Hof bei Straden .

Stainz bei Straden is about 60 km southeast of Graz and about 20 kilometers south of the city of Feldbach in the eastern Styrian hill country . To the south, the Stainz borders Straden near Straden .

history

The earliest written document is from 1382 and is "Stencz". The name goes back to the Slovenian * ščavanica ('near acidic water', meaning the Sulzbach).

Culinary specialties

In 2003 the so-called House of Volcanoes was built in Stainz near Straden. There, specialties from the Styrian volcanic region are cooked in a restaurant. In addition, the community offers numerous taverns that offer regional specialties. Parts of the municipality are used by the local winegrowers for viticulture, and Dirnbach also has a grain and oil mill.

The municipal council, which was dissolved on December 31, 2014, consisted of 15 members and, since the municipal council election in 2010, has consisted of mandates from the following parties: 11 ÖVP , 2 SPÖ and 2 FPÖ .

The last mayor was Karl Lenz ( ÖVP ), who was already in his third term of office , until the municipality was dissolved. His predecessors were Anton Koller (ÖVP) and Friedrich Haas (ÖVP).

In the space around Straden brooding Blauracke , an already rare in Europe occurring nesting birds. During the breeding season, a breeding pair can be observed in the Haus der Vulkane via a webcam.
