Schashagen is a municipality in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein .
Geography and traffic
Schashagen is located about 4 km northeast of Neustadt in Holstein on the Baltic Sea. To the west, the federal highway 1 runs from Lübeck in the direction of Fehmarn , to the east, the federal highway 501 from Neustadt to Fehmarn.
In the municipality are the places Albersdorf, Altenbek, Bentfeld , Beusloe, Bliesdorf, Brodau, Brodauer Mühle , Groß Schlamin, Hermannshof, Klein Schlamin, Krummbek, Logeberg , Moorkaten, Merkendorf , Marxdorf, Rampe, Sackhufe and Wohldmorgen.
history
The manor district of Brodau, on which some villages in Schashagen lie, was laid out in 1526 by Heinrich Rantzau († 1538) on Helmstorf . Other districts used to belong to the Johanniskloster in Lübeck and to Gut Mönchneversdorf , which today itself belongs to the neighboring community of Schönwalde am Bungsberg .
Schashagen was vacant until 1970.

The Brodauer Mühle - the gallery Dutch in the coat of arms - was the landmark of Brodau on the road to Grömitz. The grain mill, built in 1864, burned down on November 17th, 2005 for reasons that are still unknown.

Personalities
- Detlev Siegfried von Ahlefeldt (1658–1714), royal district administrator and bailiff of Oldenburg and Fehmarn.
- Detlev Friedrich von Ahlefeldt (1686–1745) was the heir to Brodau and a Danish major general.
- Johann Friedrich Heinrich Timm (1866–1945), politician of the SPD, head of the Reich Center for Homeland Service, Bavarian Dept.
In 2007, the building contractor Gerhard Gollan was given honorary citizenship of the Schashagen community.
In 2008 Ernst-August Wittrock received the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Medal of the state of Schleswig-Holstein for his local political work as mayor from 1994 to 2008 .
