The Brodauer Mühle was a windmill northwest of the village of Brodau in the municipality of Schashagen in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein - between Neustadt in Holstein and the Baltic Sea .

Due to its elevated position on the Mühlenberg (on the B 501 ), it was clearly visible, a well-known sight and the symbol of the community of Schashagen , in whose coat of arms it forms the essential element.

There was a one-storey (four-storey) gallery tower mill , on a back stone octagonal base (tower) with a reed thatched roof , a had metal covered cap and shutter wings.

The windmill was built in 1864 by the mill builder Carl Friedrich Trahn (1806–1888) from Neustadt in Holstein for the Brodau estate.

As cultural monument under monument protection standing windmill was used as a flour mill until 1960th It was last used by an adjacent restaurant. After, among other things, an improper renovation of the gallery had been carried out, there was a judicial dispute between the owner / s and the State Office for Monument Protection, in which the latter prevailed.

The burnt down Brodauer mill

The windmill burned down in November 2005 - only the brick substructure and some beams of the mill body remained.
