About this picture

Heringsdorf is a municipality in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein . Augustenhof, Fargemiel, Görtz, Kalkberg, Klötzin, Rellin, Siggen, Süssau and Weilandtshof are located in the municipality and belong to the municipality as districts. Three districts are commonly referred to as goods: Gut Augustenhof, Gut Görtz and Gut Siggen.

history

The place Heringsdorf is based on a Slavic foundation and belongs together with Klötzin, Rellin, Fargemiel, Görtz and Siggen to the Lübschen city monastery villages.

Districts

Goertz

Gut Görtz was first mentioned in the middle of the 13th century.

The estate is privately owned. It is used for agriculture, with the cultivation of grain and rapeseed predominating. An art market takes place on the estate in the summer months. A café has been set up in a former barn.

Siggen

Gut Siggen is used as a guest house and forum for the Alfred Toepfer Foundation FVS , which is based in Hamburg. At the same time, the property is used for agriculture. Alfred Toepfer acquired the estate in 1932.

The farm buildings were rebuilt after a fire in 1934.

Süssau

Süssau is a recreation and camping site in the municipality of Heringsdorf. The Süssau beach promenade was recently renewed and a pier built. There are parking spaces at the entrance to the beach (pier); the access road is not a thoroughfare, which proves to be pleasant for beach visitors and campsite users.

The Camper Festival, the Baltic Sea break and the fireworks on the pier take place in Süssau.

Süssau is significantly shaped by life on the beach (with DLRG station) and on the beach promenade as well as by the operation of the campsites such as Camping Club Süssau, Camping Park Süssau, Camping Poseidon and Camping am Minigolf. A short distance away there are two other campsites on Rosenfelder Strand, one of which is a traditional nudist business.

economy

The community is predominantly agricultural. Since the place is on the Baltic Sea, tourism is an important source of income. To increase the attractiveness of the Süssau part of the municipality, the beach promenade was renovated at the beginning of the 2006 season and a pier was integrated. With its functional architecture, the new beach hall defines the image in the entrance area of the promenade.

traffic

Heringsdorf is on the Lübeck – Puttgarden railway line . The former station (later a stop) has not been served by passenger trains for a number of years.
