history
After the end of the state of Austria-Hungary , four electoral districts were created for the area of Styria with the electoral code of 1918 for the election of the constituent national assembly, whereby the electoral district of Graz and the surrounding area (constituency 20) was formed for the area of today's regional constituency (constituency 20) City of Graz also included the judicial district of Graz Umgebung . After the electoral code of 1923 was overruled by the Austro-Fascist government in 1934, the original division of constituencies was largely reintroduced after the Second World War with the constitutional law of October 19, 1945. With the National Council electoral code in 1971, there was a far-reaching reform of the constituencies, which reduced the number of constituencies in Austria to just nine. As a result, there was only one constituency for the federal state of Styria, the constituency of Styria (constituency 6). With the entry into force of the National Council electoral code in 1992, the Austrian federal territory was finally divided into 43 regional constituencies and a third investigation procedure was introduced, whereby Graz became the regional constituency Graz (constituency 6A) and the Graz-Umgebung district together with the Voitsberg district became the regional constituency of Styria Central (6B). has been. In the course of the amalgamation of districts in the state of Styria, the regional constituencies in the state of Styria were reorganized on January 1, 2013. As a result, the Graz regional constituency was merged with the Graz-Umgebung district to form the Graz and Surroundings regional constituency.
