The Voitsberg district is a political district in the state of Styria . It is included in the West Styria region .
history
The Voitsberg district was split off from the Graz-Umgebung district on October 1, 1891 and comprised the area of the Voitsberg judicial district with its 59 municipalities.
As part of the municipal structural reform 2014/15 , in the course of which the outer borders of the district were not changed, the number of municipalities in the district was reduced from 25 to the following 15 municipalities from January 1, 2015:
- Bärnbach, Edelschrott, Geistthal-Södingberg, Hirschegg-Pack, Kainach near Voitsberg, Köflach, Krottendorf-Gaisfeld, Ligist, Maria Lankowitz, Mooskirchen, Rosental an der Kainach, Sankt Martin am Wöllmißberg, Söding-Sankt Johann, Stallhofen, Voitsberg.
In the run-up, the non-partisan citizens' platform "Kernraumfusion" tried to achieve that by merging the nine core municipalities Köflach, Voitsberg, Bärnbach, Maria Lankowitz, Rosental, Piberegg, Salla, Graden and Gößnitz, a new city should emerge through a voluntary merger, which also had the status a statutory city . But this idea was not implemented.
