Ernst Gödl (born December 28, 1971 in Graz , Styria ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 2014 to November 8, 2017 he was a member of the Federal Council . On November 9, 2017, he was sworn in as a member of the National Council.

Life

Private

Ernst Gödl was born in 1971 as the fourth child of the farmer Johann Gödl from Dietersdorf and his wife Theresia, née Garber. He grew up on his parents' farm with his two brothers and two sisters, which his parents ran full-time. Gödl has been married since July 2007 and has two daughters.

education and profession

Gödl attended the Dobl elementary school from 1978 to 1982 and then the Episcopal Gymnasium between 1982 and 1991, spending a school year in Oaxaca ( Mexico ) between 1989 and 1990 . In 1992 he began studying law and English at the University of Graz . In July 2013 he graduated as Mag.iuris from the University of Linz . From 1995 to 2013 he was also the manager of his parents' farm. Since 2013 he has been employed as a lawyer at a Graz law firm.

Political career

After Gödl founded a non-partisan youth association in 1992, he was elected mayor of Zwaring-Pöls in 1995 , making him the youngest mayor in Austria. Since the merger of the municipalities of Dobl and Zwaring-Pöls to form the market municipality of Dobl-Zwaring, he has been Vice Mayor. He had held the office of district party chairman for Graz-Umgebung since 2000 and was a member of the Styrian state parliament from 2000 to 2010. As area spokesman for the ÖVP state parliament club, he represented the topics of the environment and energy and, according to his own statements, was primarily involved in the areas of environmental protection, consumer protection, youth and communities.

In 2014 he was sent to the Austrian Federal Council by the Styrian Landtag. He has also been Vice President since December 2015.

In the 2017 Nations Council election , he ran in the constituency of Graz and Graz-Umgebung and obtained 7177 preferential votes; at the beginning of the 26th legislative period on November 9, 2017, he was sworn in as a member of the National Council . He was succeeded in the Federal Council by the state manager of the Styrian People's Party , Detlev Eisel-Eiselsberg .
