Axel Kassegger

Axel Kassegger (born January 4, 1966 in Friesach ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and entrepreneur. He has been a member of the Austrian National Council since 2013 .

education and profession

Kassegger attended the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium in Hallein until 1984 and, after graduating from high school, did military service between 1984 and 1985. Between 1987 and 1997 he studied law at the University of Graz and completed his undergraduate studies in 1992 with the academic degree Mag. Iur. from. During his studies he became a member of the Academic Fraternity Germania Graz in 1985 and of the Thessalia Prague fraternity in 1989 . He then completed his doctorate between 1995 and 1997 at the University of Graz. He wrote his dissertation on "The development of social security law for workers and employees in the first republic" and received the academic degree of Dr. iur. Kassegger also studied sports science from 1989 to 1996 at the University of Graz, where he obtained the academic degree Mag. Phil. got awarded. In addition, he studied business administration at the University of Graz from 1989 and received the academic degree Mag. Rer in 1994 . soc. oec.

From 1996 to 1997 Kassegger was assistant to the management of the electricity company Schöder Walther Zedlacher KG in Mariahof and from 1997 to 1999 a management consultant of the ÖAF Academy for Management GmbH in Graz. From 1999 to 2001 he was a management consultant at Dr. P. Prochaska GmbH active. He has been a lecturer at various universities of applied sciences since 2000 on the subjects of corporate management, controlling and cost accounting and from 2001 to 2005 acted as course director and full-time lecturer for the university of applied sciences course accounting and controlling on campus 02 of the university of applied sciences in Graz. Kassegger has been an entrepreneur in various management functions and supervisory boards since 2005, where he has also been managing director and partner of bloomix GmbH since April 2008. In addition, he has been chairman of the supervisory board of Steirische Verkehrsbund Gesellschaft mbH since 2001 and deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Holding Graz - Kommunale Dienstleistungen GmbH since 2013.

Politics and functions

Kassegger was a functionary of the Ring of Freedom Students in Graz from 1987 to 1992. From 2007 to 2009 he worked as the local party leader of the FPÖ in Gratwein and from 2007 to 2009 as a member of the district party leadership of the FPÖ Graz-Umgebung, before he became a member of the city party leadership of the FPÖ Graz and district party chairman of the FPÖ Graz-Innere Stadt in 2009. Since 2009 he has also been a member of the regional party executive of the FPÖ Styria. He is also the treasurer of the Freedom Academic Association of Styria. Kassegger ran for the 2013 National Council election and won a mandate from the Styrian constituency . He was sworn in as a MP on October 29, 2013.

At the invitation of the government of Cambodia , Kassegger observed the election there on July 29, 2018 and assessed it as being carried out "very professionally". Since Prime Minister Hun Sen has suppressed critics and previously dissolved the largest opposition party, this election is rejected as unfair by the EU and human rights organizations.

In July 2019, Kassegger succeeded Wolfgang Klinger as economic spokesman in the Freedom Parliamentary Club .
