The regional constituency of Tyrol is a regional constituency in Austria that is formed in the case of elections to the National Council for the award of mandates in the second preliminary investigation . The constituency includes the state of Tyrol . In the 2017 National Council election , 543,116 people were eligible to vote in the Tyrolean electoral district, with the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) emerging as the strongest party with 38.4%. Of the 15 basic mandates to be awarded, five were assigned to the ÖVP, and three each to the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) and the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ).

history

After the end of the state of Austria-Hungary , a total of two electoral districts were created for the region of Tyrol with the election regulations of 1918 for the election of the constituent national assembly. These were the constituencies of North Tyrol (constituency 25) and German South Tyrol (WK 26). After areas such as South Tyrol and South Bohemia had finally been ceded by Austria to the successor states of Austria-Hungary, a single constituency, the constituency of Tyrol (constituency 18) was created from the remaining parts of Tyrol . After the electoral code of 1923 was overruled by the Austro-Fascist government in 1934, the original division of constituencies was largely reintroduced after the Second World War with the constitutional law of October 19, 1945. In 1971, with the National Council electoral code of 1971, a far-reaching reform of the constituencies was finally carried out, with which the number of constituencies in Austria was reduced to just nine. For the state of Tyrol, however, only the constituency number changed (now constituency 7). When the National Council electoral code came into force in 1992, the Austrian federal territory was finally divided into 43 regional constituencies and a third preliminary investigation was introduced, with the Tyrolean electoral district (constituency 7) being divided into the five regional constituencies Innsbruck (7A) and Innsbruck-Land (7B) for the first preliminary investigation. , Unterland (7C), Oberland (7D) and Osttirol (7E). The Tyrolean electoral district was subsequently assigned 15 mandates in 1993, although the recalculation of the distribution of mandates between the federal states in 2002 (based on the results of the 2001 census) did not result in any change for the Tyrolean electoral district.
