Political career

As a motivation for her political commitment, Neßler cites a life-threatening illness during her school days. This experience made her want to "do something positive". According to her own statement, she decided in favor of the Greens because they are the only party that would work for “a real improvement for people and nature”.

From 2009 to 2012 Barbara Neßler was deputy head girl at HLW Marienberg and sat on the school community committee .

During her studies, Neßler started in politics with an email to the political student association Grüne & Alternative Studenteninnen in December 2016, in which she announced that she would like to get involved politically. One month later, she became the top candidate for the election of the University Representation at the University of Innsbruck and has been a mandate of the University Representation Innsbruck since January 2017.

Since the municipal council and mayor election in Innsbruck in 2018 , Neßler has been a member of the Innsbruck Green Party council and is a member of the committee for work, tourism and economy as well as the culture committee and substitute member of the committees for finance, subsidies and participations as well as urban development, housing and projects. Since November 2018, Barbara Neßler has been the district spokeswoman for the Green District Group Innsbruck and thus " party leader of the mayor's and strongest municipal council group ". Since 2018 she has also been a delegate to the Federal Green Congress.

In the preselection of the state list for the National Council election on June 29, 2019, Neßler prevailed in a fighting vote with 51.2% of the 130 delegate votes against the lateral entrant Stefanie Gartlacher and thus became the top candidate of the Greens in the state of Tyrol. Previously, ex- Vice President Hermann Weratschnig withdrew his candidacy for first place and announced that he would only run for second place, in which he prevailed against four other applicants with 61.3% in the first round. With her party's re-entry into the National Council and the fulfillment of the requirements for a state mandate, Neßler moved into the National Council.

Barbara Neßler does not see herself as politically left, but as "human". She sees her goals primarily in climate protection, affordable housing and education.
